Nationwide Rivers Inventory

Nationwide Rivers Inventory
On August 2, 1979, President Jimmy Carter signed a Presidential Directive relating to rivers on the Nationwide Inventory of rivers with potential Wild and Scenic Rivers qualities. Fort Snelling lies along a portion of the Mississippi River included in the inventory. The Presidential Directive stresses that federal agencies, “to the extent of the agency’s authority,” protect and preserve the historical, cultural and natural resources associated with rivers on the inventory.
