Sideoats Grama (Bouteloua curtipendula)

Description: A dry prairie plant, sideoats have a dense root system that allows them to survive droughts. Sideoats is a moderately aggressive plant, but is important and should be included in all prairie plantings. Small seeds are carried on one side of the stem, and the seedheads are purplish in the fall.

Planting: Sow unstratified seed in the fall and stratified seed in the spring. Transplants may be used in either the fall or the spring. Plants will flower their first year, and will flower from July to September.
