Description: One of the signature grasses of the tallgrass prairie, this plant grows to be 3 to 5 feet tall. It has large, soft plumes with glossy bronze seedheads in the fall. Indiangrass prefers drier conditions, but also does well in mesic sites. It is an aggressive plant and needs space and competition.
Planting: Sow unstratified seeds in the fall, stratified seeds in the spring. Transplants can also be used in the fall or spring.
