Description: One of two shrubs commonly found in the tallgrass prairie, Prairie Rose has a pretty pink flower and compound leaves with thorns. The fruit are hips that develop below the sepals. Rosa carolina, Pasture Rose, is a similar species with the same distribution. The Prairie Rose prefers mesic sites, but also grows in dry areas.
Planting: Seeds are slow to germinate, so the best propagation is from stem cuttings or division of root stock.
