Montgomery's Raid is a four-act play about a raid made on Fort Scott in December of 1858 by James Montgomery, a free state leader. The ranger or volunteer leading the play will give a general overview of Bleeding Kansas and its effects on the town of Fort Scott. Most of the time wiil be spent performing the play itself. During their free time, the officers enjoyed hunting. Captain Swords wrote "everybody here is hunting mad, hunting and dogs constitute their thoughts by day and dreams by night" Of another officer, Swords said that "wolf chasing and duck hunting" were the only things that reconciled him to the place
