Customer Service Plan

Introduction

The Northern Plains Area (NPA), Information Technology Section, provides quality and timely Information Technology (IT) support by assisting NPA personnel on computer related issues at Agricultural Research Service (ARS) locations located in Colorado, Kansas, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming. In addition, the office indirectly provides support and assistance to the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), located in Beltsville, Maryland and Washington, D.C., as well as the other seven Area Offices geographically located throughout the United States. The NPA IT Staff supports the ARS mission by providing an integrated, secure means for communications via the Internet and Intranet to and from ARS systems and applications.

Work Unit Description

Six Information Technology Specialists located in Fort Collins, Colorado provide support to customers and infrastructure. The office is committed to increasing the effectiveness, productivity, and success of our customers by providing quality technical advice, maintaining reliable systems and technical infrastructure, and providing responsive support services. We value our customers' ideas and believe that delivering quality services to them is the most important thing we do. Effective teamwork by both parties helps us survive in a rapidly changing environment.

Work Services

  • Serves as NPA telecommunications advisor
  • Serves as NPA IT security officer
  • Provides assistance to NPA staff regarding Internet usage, Internet access, and web authoring
  • Oversees ARSNet WAN for the NPA in addition to serving as the administrator for the Local Area Network (LAN)
  • Assists NPA users and supplies answers to general questions regarding E-Mail
  • Assists users with installation of new, additional, or replacement PC components and ensures that the component(s) are properly installed and working for users needs within ARS administrative guidelines
  • Provides user support, assistance, and training for agency proprietary and Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) software (word processing, presentations, spreadsheets, etc.)
  • Works closely with OCIO to ensure that all IT processes are functioning within ARS guidelines
  • Participates on various national-level IT evaluation project teams, assisting with ARS software testing, preparing software evaluations, and hardware testing
  • Provides hardware and software support and troubleshooting
  • Provides support to the NPA regarding general IT issues

Periodic Review and Assessment

Successful implementation of the NPA IT mission is accomplished through a partnership of management and employees throughout the NPA. Customer feedback and suggestions for improvement are always welcome. Comments and questions can be directed to:
