POSITION:

Research Molecular Biologist

LOCATION:

Manhattan, KS

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:   The position is assigned to the Biological Research Unit of the Grain Marketing and Production Research Center, Manhattan, KS.  The mission of the Research Unit is to develop ecologically-based technologies to replace or reduce the use of traditional pesticides for the control of stored product insect pests.  The incumbent will use RNA interference and large-scale sequencing technologies to identify new control targets in stored-product tenebrionid insect pests.  The successful candidate will be involved in the design, experimental implementation, and data analysis of laboratory studies to identify genes or gene-products and establish new environmentally benign methods for the control of stored-product tenebrionid insect pests.  The assignment will require familiarity with basic programming and analysis of large datasets.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:   Recent Ph.D. in molecular biology, biochemistry, entomology, or a closely related field is required.  Experience with microinjection/RNA interference, DNA/RNA manipulation and cloning, real-time PCR, and bioinformatics (including BioPerl) is desirable.
