POSITION:

Research Geneticist (Plants)

LOCATION: Fargo, ND

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: This position is located in the Plant Science Research Unit, Fargo, North Dakota. The incumbent will develop knowledge about Canada thistle (Cirsium arvense) as a step toward biological control of this noxious perennial weed. The project involves application of molecular markers to study the population genetics of Canada thistle and related plants. The nature of the research assignment also requires skill in working with an interdisciplinary research team and communicating with non-technical audiences.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D. in Genetics or Plant Science or a closely related field. It is desired that the incumbent have a background in working with DNA-based markers (e.g., SSR) and techniques and skill in collecting, analyzing, and summarizing population genetic, phylogenetic or biogeography data. (1) Knowledge of the principles and techniques used in plant population genetics and systematics, (2) Knowledge of molecular biology techniques and approaches, and (3) Knowledge of experimental design and statistical analyses to access genetic variation.
