Uruguay is one of the few countries in the world with fully digitalized networks. While basic telephony remains a state monopoly, international long distance and cellular communications are wide open to the private sector. International competition has lowered prices and spurred demand for equipment and accessories. The country is ranked second in the number of PC and Internet users per/capita in Latin America. This report reviews the structure of the Uruguayan telecommunications services and equipment sector from the perspective of its potential U.S. exports.
