NHEERL Researchers Winners of 2008 Scientific and Technological Achievement Awards

For nearly 30 years, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Office of Research and Development, in cooperation with EPA’s Science Advisory Board, has sponsored the Scientific and Technological Achievement Awards (STAA) program. Annually, these awards acknowledge outstanding publications written by EPA scientists and engineers that report on research initiating or revising a scientific or technological principle or procedure and is recognized as a major achievement within its discipline or field of study.

Because many of its scientists were named 2008 STAA winners, NHEERL was the lead laboratory for 3 of the 5 level I awards, 7 of the 17 level II awards (participating in 4 others), 9 of the 31 level III awards (participating in 1 other), and 7 of 46 honorable mentions. In response to these awards, NHEERL Director, Hal Zenick, Ph.D., said, “[I] am extremely proud of NHEERL's accomplishments. . . . These awards reflect the continued commitment of NHEERL staff to research excellence and relevance.”
