Archive: Local and State Government Advisory Committee
August 2003
The Telecommunications Act of 1996 requires a close working relationship between the FCC and the state, city and local governments to expand competition in communications. This page provides state and local governments with a central source of information on FCC proceedings of the most interest to them.
Formed in 1997, the LSGAC advises the FCC on issues of concern to state, local and tribal governments. The LSGAC has taken an active role in bringing representatives of state and local governments together with representatives of the communications industry to produce creative solutions to legal and regulatory issues that will promote the interests of consumers, governments, and industry alike. In addition, the members of the LSGAC are a valuable resource to state and local government officials who have questions or comments about the FCC's rules and proceedings.
The LSGAC is comprised of local, state and tribal government officials from throughout the country. The LSGAC does not address individual consumer issues or complaints about telecommunications services. For assistance in these areas, please contact the FCC's Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau at 1-888-CALL-FCC or www.fcc.gov/cgb/.
