Photo showing healthy rice and lotus crops and a crayfish infested pond in the middle.

Louisaiana crayfish Procambarus clarkii can devastate agriculture by consuming crops such as rice and lotus as well as by burrowing in the muddy bottom of agricultural ponds. A healthy rice crop appears in the foreground of the photo, and a healthy, dense lotus crop is seen in the background (notice the dense leaves). The ponds in the midground of this photo contain a lotus crop severely limited by crayfish infestation.
