OSHA Trade Release January 5, 2004 Contact: Frank Meilinger Phone: (202) 693-1999 National Advisory Committee on Ergonomics to Meet in Washington January 27-28 Symposium on Research to be Held in Conjunction with Meeting WASHINGTON -- The National Advisory Committee on Ergonomics (NACE) will hold its fourth public meeting in Washington, D.C., Jan. 27-28, 2004. A research symposium entitled Musculoskeletal and Neurovascular Disorders -- The State of Research Regarding Workplace Etiology and Prevention, will be held in conjunction with the first day of the NACE meeting. NACE is chartered to advise the Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health on issues related to OSHA's approach to reducing ergonomic-related injuries in the workplace-guidelines, research and, outreach and assistance. The committee will meet from 8:00-5:00 p.m. both days at the Hotel Washington, 15th and Pennsylvania Ave., NW, Washington, DC. During the first day of the meeting, the committee will hear presentations at the research symposium. The symposium will allow committee members to hear new and relevant research data from ergonomics experts. The committee will use proceedings from the symposium to make recommendations to advance OSHA's agenda of reducing the incidence of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) in the workplace. In addition to the symposium, the committee will hear presentations on additional topics related to the diagnosis of injuries and workplace ergonomics programs. The committee's working groups on Research, Guidelines, and Outreach and Assistance will meet and report back to the full committee and lead discussions about their respective topics.
