Overview: The
Maine Healthcare Association, OSHA, and nursing home and personal care
facilities aim to reduce injuries and illnesses, and to streamline the
implementation of industry regulations and procedures. Information and
training will focus on hazard recognition and OSHA standards.
Results: From May 2002 to February 2004, 45 Health Care facilities in
Maine participated in this Partnership agreement. OSHA conducted 8
training sessions which were completed throughout the state and
covered various safety topics. |

Overview: Participating employers establish or improve their
safety and health management systems, with focus on preventing employee injuries during
patient handling.
Results: After becoming a participant in this Partnership, one
nursing home facility completed site surveys with a focus on patient handling. As a
result, the Resident Handling Incident Rate decreased from 20.5 in 2002 to 6.6 in 2003.
Additional nursing homes were added in 2004 and by 2005, 15 employers and 3, 278 employees
were covered by the Partnership. |

Overview: The Associated General Contractors of America and OSHA
partnered to improve safety and health at construction sites. Goals include annual reductions of
3% in injuries, illnesses, and fatalities, implementation of effective safety and health programs
at partner sites and the provision of training to management, supervisors and employees.
Results: In 2005, the Partnership covered 3 employers – Cianbro
Construction, CPM Constructors, and CCB, Inc. – and 1,000 employees. 70 employees and 30 managers
received safety and health management system training. |

Overview: This partnership involves the renovation of the former
Hartford, Connecticut Civic Center Mall site with a mixed-use development encompassing
residential, retail, and public access and parking features. The partners are Turner Construction
Company, Construction Trades Council, and the Building Trades Employer Association. The specific
goals include: eliminating the four primary construction hazards (falls, electrical, caught
in/between, and struck–by); minimizing employee exposure to unprotected walking/working surfaces
(horizontal and vertical) that are six feet or more above a lower level; and keeping Turner
Construction Company’s days away, restricted work activity, and job transfer (DART) rate at 25% or
more below the national average.
Results: The project, now known as Hartford 21, is scheduled for completion in the Fall of 2006,
with the final beam of the 36-story, 262-unit luxury residential tower (the tallest in New
England) having been lowered in October 2005. Employees covered by the partnership numbered
approximately 285 during construction in 2005. |

Overview: Cobb Hill/Pro Con Construction Joint Venture, LLC, the New
Hampshire Department of Environmental Services, Consultation Program and OSHA Concord Area Office,
mutually recognize the importance of ensuring a safe and healthful work environment in the
construction industry in the State of New Hampshire.
This partnering agreement, which has been developed for the Cobb Hill/Pro Con Construction Joint
Venture, LLC, Project located at 11 South Main Street and 75 Storr Street in Concord, NH, will be
limited to the Cobb Hill/Pro Con Construction Joint Venture, LLC, and specialty or trade
contractors at the site. The primary goals of this partnership are: (1) Reduce injuries illnesses
and fatalities resulting from falls struck-by, caught-in between, and electrocution hazards and
trenching by 5% (2) Decrease workers compensation cost and number of OSHA citations.
Results: During the most recent evaluation period, this partnership
impacted 21 employers and 250 employees. Four training sessions were conducted by OSHA staff with
a total of 250 employees attending these trainings. Among the training conducted at Cobb Hill were
fall protection, steel erection, precast concrete and excavations. In addition, 81 employees
attended an OSHA 10-hour training. Also, throughout the duration of the evaluation period,
eighty-four (84) self-inspections were performed and 99 hazards were abated. |

Overview: Cianbro Corporation, OSHA, and Maine 21(d)
Consultation Project mutually recognize the importance of ensuring a safe and
healthful work environment in the construction industry in the State of Maine.
To advance this mutual goal, the partnership was established to formalize a
cooperative effort committed to encourage companies to improve their safety
and health performance voluntarily, provide methods to assist them in their
efforts, and recognize companies with exemplary safety and health programs.
This partnering agreement has been developed for Cianbro Corporation for the
Hollywood Slots Project located in Bangor, Maine. The partnership is limited
to the Cianbro Corporation and specialty or sub-contractors at the site.
Cianbro Corporation will request the specialty or subcontractors to join the
partnership at the time they start working on the site. The partnership will
provide benefits to Cianbro Corporation and the specialty or subcontractors,
which include, among others, special recognition from OSHA and priority in
compliance assistance programs.
The Project consists of a seven story hotel, a four story parking garage and a
135,000 square foot gaming facility. The expected completion date for the two
buildings is December 2008. |

Overview: Recognizing the importance of ensuring a
safe and healthful work environment in the construction industry in the
Commonwealth of Massachusetts, OSHA and Erland Construction, Inc. signed a
comprehensive safety and health partnership on July 31, 2008.
Goals of the partnership include: reducing the Total Case Injury Rate (TCIR)
and Days Away Restricted Transfer (DART) rates by 5% annually compared to, the
BLS data for General Contractors - Non-Residential/Industrial Buildings SIC
and reducing injuries and fatalities. The partnership will focus in particular
on construction industry hazards such as: falls; struck-by; caught-in;
caught-between, electrocutions and trenching and excavation and exposure to
silica during construction activities.
The Sunrise of Franklin Senior Living Facility project in Franklin,
Massachusetts, involves the construction of a senior living facility
consisting of 79 living units with a complete food service and dining
facility. The building structure consists of four stories with structural
steel frame, metal deck with concrete slabs. The exterior walls will be metal
stud and dens-glass sheathing with cementitious horizontal siding. The roof
consists of membrane roof on the main roof, shingles at the mansards and metal
roof at the porch and entrance. There will be two elevators installed that
will service all four floors. The resident units will be serviced by
through-wall HVAC units. The building is designed with a complete fire
protection system including a fire pump and will be equipped with an emergency
generator for back-up power.
Founded in 1977 in Burlington, MA, Erland Construction, Inc. provides Program
Management; Construction Management; Design/Build; and General Contracting
services to corporate, institutional, educational, industrial, residential,
and commercial development clients.
The project is scheduled for completion during September, 2009. |

Overview: The Project consists of a restoration
project for the old National Guard Armory whose footprint encompasses three
city blocks. The building is a National Historic landmark built in 1907. The
building is considered to be one of eleven most endangered building in the
United States and is currently occupied by two Rhode Island State Agencies.
The Project includes, but is not limited to, two 180 foot stone towers, two 90
foot stone balconies and a 60 foot stone chimney. The building is scheduled to
be restored in phases and is scheduled for completion in early 2008.

The Project consists of two four-story buildings with a total of 100,000 square feet of classroom
and office space. The buildings will consist of structural steel frames, masonry block and brick
exteriors, with curtain walls and pitched copper roofs. The expected completion date for the two
buildings is September 2008. |
