The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. (SPI), founded in 1937, is the trade association representing one of the largest manufacturing industries in the United States. SPI’s members represent the entire plastics industry supply chain, including processors, machinery and equipment manufacturers and raw material suppliers. The U.S. plastics industry employs 1.4 million workers and provides nearly $310 billion in annual shipments. SPI is the producer of NPE, which takes place every three years and brings together a cross section of virtually the entire plastics industry. Nearly 2,000 companies will exhibit. Exhibiting companies include manufactures of machinery and ancillary equipment, producers of plastics resins and additives, mold makers, instrumentation and automation companies, and numerous other specialists involved in plastics manufacturing, marketing and end use.

NPE is the third largest United States–based international trade shows. The broad based value of NPE, started in 1946, is demonstrated by it steady growth both in terms of the number of exhibitors and floor space taken by participating companies and in the size and makeup of attendees.

Attendees include representatives from all major plastics-using industries including automotive, appliance, packaging, electrical/electronic, furniture and construction, as well as from plastics and plastics-related companies. NPE 2006 will also feature machinery and accessory equipment for the processing of thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) and rubber in a new pavilion.

Seminars/educational programs

NPE offers visitors a wide array of education programs that include an unprecedented range of conferences and seminars providing attendees with an unmatched opportunity for education. Conferences include a diverse range of business and technical sessions during which attendees have the opportunity to obtain updates by industry experts on topics affecting the future of their business.

NPE offers free conferences where industry experts discuss current and future trends influencing the market for plastics.

A wide variety of other in-depth programs will also be offered at an additional charge. These briefings and seminars, produced by SPI and other industry organizations, will take place concurrently with the show in conference rooms adjacent to the exhibit floor.
