TOPIC PROJECT
Construction
Researched and developed an options paper regarding hand-washing alternatives on construction sites where plumbing may not be readily available to include the benefits and barriers to each alternative.
 
Emergency Response
  • Developed a safety and health plan for the Spills of National
    Significance exercise.

  • Developed a series of frequently asked questions (with response) on pandemic influenza preparedness and response guidance for healthcare workers and employers.

  • Identified and analyzed safety and health concerns of volunteers in disaster recovery operations to include the development of a "Safety and Health Checklist for Volunteers and Community-based Organizations Engaged in Disaster Demolition and Construction Operations".

  • Developed guidelines for occupational health of mass care shelter
    workers.
Health Hazards in Logging
Researched and developed section on selected health hazards for Logging eTool and Safety and Health Topics page.
 
Health Hazards in Woodworking
Researched and developed section on selected health hazards for the Woodworking eTool.
 
Silica/Silicosis
  • Created a reference database organizing reference material on adverse health effects from exposure to silica to include a review and evaluation of the literature on silico-tuberculosis related to health effects.

  • Researched and analyzed workers compensation systems by state related to compensation for silicosis.

  • Researched, analyzed and synthesized information to try and determine prevalence of silicosis by age.
Teen Workers
  • Analyzed the effectiveness of the "Teen Summer Job Safety Campaigns" making recommendation for improvement and focusing of subsequent year's efforts.

  • Analyzed data and created modules and other components to the "Teen Workers" Web page and "Youth in Agriculture" electronic training tool.
Tuberculosis
  • Revised the Model Exposure Control Plan for employer covered by the proposed Tuberculosis Standard, section 1910.2003.

  • Evaluated the use of Zinc Protoporphyrin (ZZP) analysis as a screening tool for early detection of adverse effects from lead exposure.
Workplace Violence
Worked on an educational outreach conference on Workplace Violence sponsored by OSHA Reg. IV, e.g. researched and analyzed literature and data related to workplace violence and developed bibliography.
