Jamie Link was selected as one of the top 100 most remarkable innovators for 2004, and at the age of 26 was the youngest recognized scientist on the list. Link, a graduate student under Michael Sailor collaborated with Sailor in the development of their "smart dust" nanosensors.

Dr. Barbara Karn of EPA/NCER's nanotechnology extramural research program, and Dr. Mike Sailor, a nanotechnologist receiving grant funding through EPA's STAR grant program, were recently interviewed by ScienCentral News to discuss the role nanotechnology can play in the development of pollutant sensors.

EPA Announces New Environmental Technology Opportunities Portal
WASHINGTON (NCER) -To help those seeking funding opportunities, information, and links to programs that assist in environmental technology development and commercialization, EPA launched the Environmental Technology Opportunities Portal (ETOP) on December 31, 2003.
ETOP links to governmental and non-governmental programs that foster the use and acceptance of innovative technologies through collaborative recognition and incentives or advocacy and information programs. ETOP was established as a result of a Congressional mandate through the FY 2003 House Appropriations Conference Report that directed EPA to develop a “one-stop-shop” office to coordinate similar programs that foster private and public sector development of new, cost-effective environmental technologies. P3 Award: A Student Design Competition for Sustainability is launched
WASHINGTON (NCER) - EPA Assistant Administrator for Research and Development Paul Gilman and President of the National Academy of Engineering William Wulf today launched the P3 Award. EPA and its 35 partners from industry, NGOs, and other government agencies, offer this student design competition to respond to the scientific and technical challenges in moving towards the goal of sustainability. P3 is a partnership between the public and private sectors to achieve the mutual goals of economic prosperity while protecting the natural systems of the planet and providing a higher quality of life for its people.
