Custom Wetland Data Extractions

Due to limited resources, custom wetland data extractions by the Wetlands Team are no longer available. Please make use of the data access methods outlined below.

Wetlands data are available for immediate download via two mechanisms:

  1. The Extract/Download tool in the Wetlands Mapper allows the user to download wetlands data within the current view extent. This is available only when the wetlands data layers are visible. This method will only allow you to download one data layer at a time. We recommend you also acquire the Wetland Project Area Metadata layer (Public Metadata) immediately after you download the wetland polygons. The Public Metadata layer provides project specific information.

  2. The Wetlands Data Extraction Tool website allows the user to select a USGS 1:24k or 1:100k quadrangle (you can use the Wetlands Mapper to find quad names). All wetland polygons, Public Metadata (project specific info), and Public Historic Map Information (historic mapping reports) within that quadrangle will be bundled into one Shapefile for download http://www.fws.gov/wetlands/data/DataDownload.html.

Raster data (scans of hardcopy wetland maps) are not available for download. Please use the Wetlands Mapper, WMS service, or KMZ on Google Earth for viewing of this data.

In addition, the wetlands data may be viewed in many GIS software applications using the Web Map Service (WMS). Instructions on how to add the WMS layer can be found on the wetlands WMS website http://www.fws.gov/wetlands/data/WebMapServices.html.

The wetlands data can also be added to the Google Earth application using a prepared KMZ file. Instructions on how to add the wetlands data to Google Earth can also be found on our WMS website http://www.fws.gov/wetlands/data/GoogleEarth.html.
