Adirondack Shelters
Fees - Free!
Year-round, hike in camping can be found at the Adirondack Shelters located on the northern tip of the Horse Trail. Each of the two 3-sided shelters, similar to those on the Appalachian Trail, can accomodate up to 5 people. Campers must stay in the shelter and may not erect tents near the shelter or on the trail thus minimizing impact on park resources. A primitive toilet is provided. Permits for the Adirondack Shelters are issued free of charge at the Visitor Center on a first-come, first-served basis, 10:00am until 4:30pm Mon-Fri, and 8:30am until 5pm weekends. Permittees must be at least 18 years old.

A rock climbing permit may only be issued for Wolf Rock. All other areas within the park are closed to rock climbing and rappelling. Climbing helmets are required. Climbing parties may make reservations within 5 days of the climb by phoning (301) 663-9388. Permits must be picked up at the Visitor Center during regular hours. Climbing is permitted 10:00am until 4:30pm weekdays and from 8:30am until 5:00pm on weekends.
