  • Advisory Council on Education Statistics [ Member List ]
    The Council is responsible for collecting and reporting statistical information showing the condition and progress of education in the United States and other nations in order to promote and accelerate the improvement of American education. The Council includes 18 members appointed by the Secretary including: 3 practicing educators, 3 educational policymakers, 3 professional statisticians , 3 education researchers, 3 experts in educational measurement, 3 representing the general public.

  • National Educational Research Policy and Priorities Board [ Member List ]
    The Board works in cooperation with the Assistant Secretary and the Office of Educational Research and Improvement (OERI) to forge a national consensus with respect to a long-term agenda for educational research, development, and dissemination and communicating the value of educational research to the public. The Board determines priorities that ultimately guide the work of OERI and provide guidance to Congress in its oversight of OERI. The Board Includes 15 members appointed by the Secretary (through nominations recommended from the National Academy of Sciences and other educational research organizations) whose training and experience render them exceptionally qualified to appraise the educational research and development effort of the U.S.

  • President's Commission on Excellence in Special Education [ Member List ]
    The Commission shall collect information and study issues related to Federal, State, and local special education programs with the goal of recommending policies for improving the educational performance of students with disabilities. The Commission consists of not more than 19 members to be appointed by the President, as well as up to 5 ex officio members from the Departments of Education and Health and Human Services. Members shall be representatives of current and former Federal, State, and local government officials, recognized special education experts, special and general education finance experts, education researchers, education practitioners, parents of children with disabilities, persons with disabilities, and others with special experience and expertise in the education of children with disabilities.
