Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTL) Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTL)
Satellite Notification and Acceptance Program (SNAP) EFFECTIVE DATE: May 11, 2009

Introduction

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is implementing a new segment of the NRTL Program called the Satellite Notification and Acceptance Program. SNAP will become effective on May 11, 2009. Following this date, OSHA will invite NRTLs and NRTL applicants to apply for approval to participate in SNAP. Participation in SNAP is voluntary. Click on the links below to read the notice implementing SNAP and the description of this new program. Separate links are provided to the notice that OSHA published to propose SNAP and to the description of the program when it was proposed.

SNAP allows NRTLs to use facilities referred to as “SNAP sites,” which they control and audit, in order to perform particular functions necessary in the NRTL’s testing and certification operations. SNAP augments the list of options, now available to NRTLs, to use other parties to perform functions necessary for approving products. These options are called, collectively, “supplemental programs.” (See Chapter 2 of NRTL Program Directive)
