Whereas, The great spirit of service is alive and well in AmeriCorps members and programs; and,

Whereas, Michigan's dedicated AmeriCorps members of all ages are a great treasure; and,

Whereas, AmeriCorps members are building houses, mentoring and tutoring children, protecting the environment, improving health care, teaching conflict resolution, recruiting volunteers, implementing homeland security activities and more; and,

Whereas, AmeriCorps members continue to seek out opportunities to make a difference in the lives of those around them beyond their years of service to the program; and,

Whereas, Michigan's AmeriCorps Week provides an opportunity to recognize and commend the efforts of AmeriCorps members, alumni and supporters; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of May 13, 2008, as Michigan's AmeriCorps Week and I am proud to acknowledge and praise the great service of AmeriCorps members in Michigan.
