Cyberchase
Thirteen/WNET's Emmy-award-winning "Cyberchase," a mystery-adventure cartoon, is
a vehicle for teaching mathematics and problem-solving, with action
centering around three kids and their sidekick Digit (voiced by
Gilbert Gottfried). The kids use mathematics to foil the dastardly
villain Hacker (voiced by Christopher Lloyd) in his quest to take
over the virtual universe. During their travels, they encounter
new characters who are voiced by special guests such as Jane Curtin, Jasmine
Guy and Al Roker. Extensive research into how kids learn and apply
mathematics guides the program's content. Now reaching a
cumulative audience of nearly 5 million viewers each week, "Cyberchase"
is among the top-rated PBS KIDS afternoon programs.
Just in time for Earth Day on April 20, Cyberchase is launching its seventh season on PBS Kids Go! with a five-episode Weather Watchers initiative designed to introduce issues surrounding the climate to its young viewers. The initiative will be part of PBS Kids Share the Earth Day on April 22.
The new episodes will feature meteorologist Janice Huff from New York's WNBC-TV and "The Today Show," as the character Stormy Gale. Huff will also appear as herself in live-action segments where she will explain how math and weather go together, helping kids understand weather's overall impact on the environment.
