Consumer Advisory Committee Recommendation regarding Development of Feature Checklist for Coupon Eligible Converter Boxes In order to enhance consumer education when selecting a coupon eligible converter box (CECB) the FCC should make publicly available a matrix detailing the availability of key features of CECBs. The Consumer Advisory Committee recommends that the FCC make publicly available a matrix detailing the availability of key features of CECBs. We feel this will help educate consumers and ensure they purchase CECBs that best suit their particular needs. Specifically, for each CECB the FCC should list the availability of the following features: · Does the CECB offer enhanced, user-controllable caption display features? · Does the CECB have an alternative audio or SAP button? · Does the CECB offer analog broadcast signal pass through? · Does the CECB remote control have a captioning button, and if so, does it connect directly to an onscreen menu for selection of captioning? · Does the CECB remote control have a SAP button? · Does the CECB have a universal remote, enabling control of devices other than the CECB? · Does the CECB offer the ability to add new channels without having to rescan for all channels? · Does the CECB have the ability to decode either 608 or 708 captions or both? · Does the CECB stay in its current caption on/off state when the box is turned off?
