EPA would like to thank its many partner shops, partner organizations, and numerous individuals for their participation in the Nail Salon Project. This work could not have happened without the vital partnership established with our pilot shops, other federal, state, and local government agencies, and numerous individuals and organizations from the Asian-American communities in Houston, Texas. We also extend our appreciation to the many EPA Regional contributors who have shown overwhelming support for this project in providing peer review, translation services, or financial assistance for printing. The following partner organizations provided support to this project:

Nail Salon Owners & Technicians

State Cosmetology Boards - City Environmental and Health Departments - Federal Governments and Agencies

Cosmetology Schools

Asian-American Communities and Associations

BENEFITS OF PARTNERING

Nail Salon Owners & Technicians

There are many things you can do to promote safe and healthy practices at your salon -- from becoming educated on the possible human health and environmental risks to the installation of more effective ventilated work stations. Salons that adopt better shop practices will receive the following benefits:

Cosmetology Associations - Nail Care Products Manufacturers or Distributors

Are you a Nail Care Products Manufacturer or Distributor or affiliated with a cosmetology association? If so, you can help EPA educate salons about the latest developments in salon health and safety issues by:

State Cosmetology Boards - City Environmental and Health Departments - Federal Governments

You can collaborate with EPA to educate nail salon workers about health and environmental risks in their shops. Moreover, you can develop or revise policies and regulations that will encourage cleaner and safer practices in nail salons where workers and customers are exposed to potentially harmful chemicals.

Cosmetology Schools

EPA Nail Salon Project materials will assist cosmetology schools in training the next generation of salon owners and technicians in state-of-the-art practices for worker health and safety. In addition, many of the practices promoted by the partnership will also result in waste minimization and reduced cost.

Salon Customers

Do you know what environmental health and safety practices are in place at your salon? The general public can obtain important information from this site to further educate themselves and their salons about safer and better shop practices.

Asian-American Communities and Associations

As the leaders of your community, you can help EPA to reach out to our intended audience in your community by distributing nail salon materials, organizing meetings/training between EPA and salon workers, and disseminating information regarding the Nail Salon Project via your ethnic local media.
