News From the Field Water Levels Dropping in Some Major Rivers as Global Climate Changes

Rivers in some of the world's most populous regions are losing water, according to a new study led by NCAR scientists. The reduced flows in many cases are associated with climate change, and may potentially threaten future supplies of food and water.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency that supports fundamental research and education across all fields of science and engineering. In fiscal year (FY) 2009, its budget is $9.5 billion, which includes $3.0 billion provided through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
