Workshop - What to Look for in Gas Detection and Measurement Instrumentation


Originally presented at the 53rd Annual Federal Safety and Health Conference in Los Angeles on October 28, 1998.

This workshop was for those who were new or uninitiated to using or selecting gas detection/measurement instrumentation for monitoring environments for toxic or combustible gases to insure personal or personnel safety. The workshop covered the basic selection criteria and operation of various gas detection/measurement instrumentation. There was also a chance to see various types of instrumentation during a hands-on demonstration by OSHA personnel.

This presentation explained the theory of gas detection techniques used in portable instruments. It identified some of the advantages and disadvantages of each technique. The presentation also covered other factors to consider when purchasing or using gas monitors.
