Canyon Treefrog, Hyla arenicolor

| The Canyon Treefrog is a small frog attaining lengths near 2 inches. Like other treefrogs in the family Hylidae they have enlarged toe tips making a wide adhesive disc as seen in the photo, making them good climbers. The Canyon Treefrog lives mainly on the ground, though it does sometimes climb trees. The general coloration of the Canyon Treefrog is some shade of rust maroon to a gray or brown with darker brown to black markings on their dorsal surfaces. They also have a yellow to orange coloration on the concealed surface of their hind legs. The orange coloration can just barely be seen on this individual calling in the water. |
