Exporting & Joint Venture in Fruit Sector – Sept. 3rd 2008

On September 3rd 2008, from 1:00 P.M to 2:00 P.M the Chilean Economic Development Agency (CORFO) presented an international business program hosted by the Northern California World Trade Center (NCWTC). Highlighted were export and joint venture opportunities in the Chilean fruit sector. Lucinda Leonard and Mary Lyn Kagan, officers from Leonard Gonzales Enterprise Inc., coordinated the delegation’s itinerary and worked with Jorge Rojas, the U.S representative for CORFO. Co-sponsors included Sacramento USEAC, Metro Chamber and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

In preparation of the presentation, George Tastard, director of the Sacramento USEAC, extended an outreach invitation to sector specific clients.  At the presentation, Tastard kicked–off the event with commendable words of CORFO regarding their reputable relationship with the U.S embassy in Chile. The program was presented by Luis Gurovich, Senior Agricultural Consultant for IGT, a Chilean consulting firm, and provided an overview of the Chilean fruit sector. Specifically, export and joint venture opportunities and Mr. Gurovich concluded the presentation with an invitation for companies to attend their 1st International Investment Forum in Santiago, Chile, November 16 - 21, 2008. This event was a success and approximately twenty individuals from the Sacramento international business community participated.

After the presentation each company was invited to speak one-on-one with the delegates. The Sacramento USEAC is happy to report one NTE client, Sunrise Mfg., is now communicating with CORFO and working with the Sacramento USEAC to plan market entry strategies for Chile.
