Statement by SEC Commissioner:
Farewell

by

Comissioner Isaac C. Hunt, Jr.

U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission

December 21, 2001

With the close of this Congressional session, my term as a Commissioner officially ends. It has been a rare privilege and pleasure to serve as a member of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission these past five plus years. My first professional job as a lawyer was as a staff attorney here at the Commission, so to return to serve as a Commissioner was especially rewarding to me.

I want to thank Chairman Pitt and Former Chairman Levitt for their many personal and professional kindnesses to me during my time here. Serving with two such giants of the Commission provided me with a unique opportunity to learn and grow. I also want to thank Commissioners Wallman, Johnson, Carey and Unger for being such wonderful colleagues and friends. We were always close personally, and on those rare occasions on which we disagreed professionally there was never a hint of personal animosity.

Finally, I must thank our great staff, in all of our offices, for doing such excellent work, enabling the Commission to continue to be the standard of excellence by which all other independent regulatory agencies are measured.

This has been the perfect job for me. I must thank former President Clinton, former Senate Banking Committee Chairman D'Amato, present Chairman Sarbanes, other members of that Committee, and the entire United States Senate for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime.
