Dr. Zhang is professor of environmental engineering and director of the Institute of Sustainable Nanotechnology at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA. Dr. Zhang has pioneered the R& D of iron nanoparticles for environmental remediation. His research group published the first synthesis of nanoscale iron particles in 1996 and the first field application of iron nanoparticles (2000). He co-authored the first feature article on Environmental Nanotechnology published by Environmental Science & Technology in March 2003. In March 2005, Dr. Zhang and Dr. Barbara Karn (NCER) edited the first special issue of Environmental Science & Technology on nanoscale environmental technologies. Dr. Zhang’s research has been featured in New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal and many other national and international newspapers, by more than 20 popular science magazines, also by National Public Radio (NPR) and national TVs (ABC, NBC, FOX etc.). Dr. Zhang is the recipient of National Science Foundation’s CAREER Award and Lehigh University’s Class 1961 Professorship.
