DEPUTY ATTORNEY GENERAL ERIC HOLDER TO
ADDRESS THE NATIONAL URBAN LEAGUE ON LAW ENFORCEMENT AND RACE
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Deputy Attorney General Eric Holder will address the National Urban League Annual Conference on Wednesday, August 2, 2000. The Deputy Attorney General, who will deliver remarks at 9:00 a.m., will discuss police integrity issues and federal efforts to improve relations between law enforcement and minority communities.
The Deputy Attorney General will announce that the Department will circulate for comment a new document that recommends principles for model practices that police departments can use to promote police integrity and combat police misconduct. These principles are the culmination of a year of collaboration with community and civil rights advocates, law enforcement, legal practitioners, and academics, stemming from the Attorney General's June 1999 conference, "Strengthening Police - Community Relationships."
Following his remarks, the Deputy will participate in a panel discussion on police integrity issues with the heads of several Urban League affiliates including New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C. and St. Petersburg.
