Little River NWR hosted a nine day controlled turkey hunt from April 11-19, 2009.  The refuge issues 20 permits for the hunt through the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation Controlled Hunt Program.  The hunters are allowed to harvest one tom turkey during the hunt.  Hunter turnout was low this year, with only five hunters showing up to participate in the hunt.  There was only one hunter successful in harvesting a turkey during the hunt.
