Fish Taxonomy Taught at Winona State University
Midwest Region, March 11, 2009
Print Friendly Version
Fish taxonomy was presented to a Winona State University biology class geared for non biology majors.

Scott Yess from La Crosse National Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office prepared both a lecture and lab portion for the class.   During the first half hour a lecture on taxonomy centered on Minnesota Fishes.

All the families were covered and examples of each were discussed.  During the lab portion the class was divided into small groups.   They were all given several fish to key out to species.  This was challenging due to the fact that most the fish were new to the students.
