Recently the Bureau of Land Management was designated as a National System of Public Lands (NSPL). On January 8, 2009 BLM Director Caswell unveiled the first NSPL sign at the Meadowood Special Recreation Management Area on Mason Neck in northern Virginia. During the reception, BLM Eastern States Director Jan Palma presented the Potomac River National Wildlife Refuge Complex with a plaque in recognition of the cooperative management and partnership between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and BLM on Mason Neck. In the letter accompanying the award, Mr. Palma specifically recognized the efforts of the refuge in providing law enforcement coverage and assistance to Meadowood. Refuge Manager Greg Weiler and Law Enforcement Officer Williams accepted the award which is the first award to feature the new NSPL logo.
