Canaan Valley National Wildlife RefugeCelebrates National Women's History Month with Rachel Carson
Northeast Region, March 19, 2009
Print Friendly Version
In celebration of National Women's History Month, and this year's emphasis of "Women taking the lead to save our planet" Canaan Valley NWR sponsored a Sense of Wonder by Kaiulani Lee. The film is based on a play by Ms. Lee detailing Rachel Carson's life and work focused on the writing of Silent Spring.  The refuge partnered with the Lascaux Micro-Theatre in Buckhannon, WV to screen the film free as part of the "100 city tour" promotional surrounding the release of the film.  Lascaux opened the theatre to the refuge for free and contributed promotional materials and advertising for the film's screening.  Originally planned for only one showing, the overwhelming response allowed for a second showing later in the evening.  A total of 51 people attended (theatre seating is 38) and an introduction to the film and the Canaan Valley NWR was provided by refuge staff.
