Iroquois NWR actively manages approximately 2,700 acres of shrublands to provide nesting and feeding habitat for migratory shrubland birds and resident wildlife.  These units are maintained in an early successional stage through a variety of techniques including hydro-axing.  This year 11 acres of shrubland management was completed using the hydro-ax by a trained and experienced maintenance person at Iroquois. This managed shrubland area will provide habitat for shrubland species such as the American woodcock and golden-winged warbler.
