Kenai National Wildlife Refuge Staff is deeply committed to the Serivice's "Connecting People with Nature" initiative.  However, as many of us know, nothing can ruin a trip outdoors like an accident or injury.  Education Specialist Michelle Ostrowski found a way to make the resources avaialble to her in a unique way.  Working with a variety of homeschool groups,  Michelle offered American Red Cross training targetted at prmary and high school age students.  Deputy Manager Staller, a Red Cross instructor for more than 20 years, helped to deliver the classes.  The students improvised splints and other first aid equipment from supplies normally found on outings.  The course offerings were so popular that a waiting list was needed and the courses will be offered again this spring.
