Those who braved the frigid temperatures on Saturday, January 31, to participate in a eagle observation program were handsomely rewarded. The group consisted of 30 participants who were allowed access into property at Detroit Edison's Monroe plant to view and learn about the bald eagles that take advantage of the open water.

The group, led by refuge staff and DTE employees, discussed the habits of the bald eagle and saw an amazing spectacle, over 40 eagles, both juvenile and mature.  The enthusiastic group kept warm in the cold weather and were able to have extraordinary views of the bald eagles and further observe them through available binoculars and spotting scopes. The program began at 10 AM and ended at 12:30 PM.
