KENAI:Connecting People with the Outdoors
Alaska Region, January 28, 2009
Print Friendly Version

In order to promote "Connect People with the Outdoors" the Kenai Refuge in Soldotna, Alaska, hosted several winter fitness snowshoeing and x-country ski trips during the month of January 2009. Over the course of four different days, 32 people got outside and enjoyed some fresh air and exercise. While snowshoeing, participants looked for animal tracks and learned about animal track patterns and winter survival strategies animals use. While x-country skiing, participants enjoyed the scenery and quiet solitude as they traversed the frozen Headquarters Lake. Most of these events were held for adults during a weekday, but there was one Saturday where several youngsters (including a local Boy Scout troop) tried snowshoeing for the first time and played some games along the trail.
