Golden-cheeked Warbler Habitat Model Meeting Held
Southwest Region, November 19, 2008
Print Friendly Version
On November 19, 2008, the Austin Ecological Services Office coordinated a meeting among habitat modelers to discuss all of the various predictive models that are in existence for classifying endangered golden-cheeked warbler habitat.  The main goals of this meeting were to create a matrix of each model, dicuss what parameters were used to create each model, and describe what questions each model does (or does not) answer.  This meeting was not to determine if one model should be used over another for a particular purpose, but to make sure the Service fully understands the applications of each model.

There were 16 participants representing universities, consulting firms, local governments, and state and Federal agencies.  The result was a comprehensive description of what each model does and an opportunity to meet and discuss those models with the individuals who built them.  Partnerships and future collaborations resulted from the meeting which in turn will make the models more accurate.  The Austin office has agreed to set up a listserve and associated ftp site for this group so that everyone can receive up to date information on changes made to a particular model, new information available to add to the models.  The site will also serve as a general discussion forum for the group.  The ultimate goal is to reduce repitition and increase collaboration and efficiency on creating more accurate predictive models.
