Bradley Young accepts award at Lake Champlain International's Fishing Derby Banquet on behalf of the office.

The Lake Champlain International Fishing Derby, America's oldest and largest freshwater fishing derby, held its awards banquet on June 17th, 2008.  The Derby's Board of Directors presented the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Lake Champlain Fish and Wildlife Resources Office, with their annual "Angling Heritage Service Award."  Remarks from the LCI Executive Director praised the office's commitment and efforts to improve sea lamprey control and thanked the office on behalf of the fisherman for the much improved salmon and lake trout fishery.  Bradley Young attended the banquet and accepted the award on behalf of the office.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service partners with the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in managing Lake Champlain's fishery.  As a member of this cooperative partnership, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service leads the sea lamprey assessment and delta control program and participates in sea lamprey river control and salmonid management.  Over the last two years, the office (Dave Tilton, Bradley Young, Wayne Bouffard, Nicholas Staats, and Stephen Smith) has developed and implemented new techniques, technologies, and initiatives that have directly led to more effective lamprey control, resulting in an improved fishery.
