Intermittent employees at Jordan River NFH mark approximately 2 million lake trout annually, prior to their release into the Great Lakes

On November 4th 2008 the last fin clipped lake trout fingerlings made their way to the outdoor raceways at Jordan River NFH.  Annually the hatchery has 12-15 intermittent employees return to mark nearly 2 million lake trout for the Great Lakes lake trout restoration program.  This year more than million fingerlings received a right ventral (RV) fin clip.  This is the lake wide clip that denotes the 2008 year class.  The fingerlings were comprised of three different strains Lewis Lake Wild, Seneca Lake Wild and Superior Apostle Island Wild.  The fin clip or mark is used by resource agencies to identify hatchery produced lake trout and their age class.  In mid April of 2009 lake trout stocking will begin with this year class being released at many location in Lakes Huron and Michigan.
