Over 120,000 lake trout fingerlings destined for Lake Huron in spring of 2009 were marked with an adipose fin clip and tagged with coded wire tages during the first week of October at Jordan River National Fish Hatchery (NFH).  These SAW (Superior Apostle Island Strain) fingerlings will be released into Lake Huron in the Northern Lake Trout Refuge of as part of an on going interagency research effort.  The Service and partner agencies have been evaluating lake trout strain performance, dispersal patterns and the effects of sea lamprey predation.  The coded wire tags are returned to the Service by anglers and additional tags are recovered during research surveys.  The tag data will help the partner agencies make decisions for the future of lake trout restoration efforts in Lake Huron.
