TETLIN: Feeding Winter Birds!
Alaska Region, November 6, 2008
Print Friendly Version
As part of Tetlin National Wildlife Refuges celebration of National Wildlife Refuge Week, Susan Sharbaugh from the Alaska Bird Observatory (ABO) in Fairbanks visited the small community of Tok to share her wisdom, wit and enthusiasm for winter birds.  Through her doctorate studies on Black-capped Chickadees, Susan discovered amazing facts and tidbits of knowledge about these amazing little birds.  She shared these tidbits with the crowd (28 peopel attended), grabbing and holding their attention for over an hour.  Susan identified common feeder birds, what they eat, types of feeders and how to care for and clean feeders.  After the discussion, everyone had the opportunity to make their own small feeders to take home.  Door prizes (bird feeders) were also awarded and much appreciated.
