SCA intern, Liz Appleby, teaches preschoolers about camouflage during the FUN program.

The Families Understanding Nature or FUN program is proving to be popular with the preschool crowd.  The program originally began in 1995 but had been on hold for quite some time. Each Wednesday during the summer months and twice a month during the winter, preschoolers and their parents or caregivers gather at the Kodiak NWR Visitor Center for an hour of books, songs, crafts, and games.  Sue Knoth, Education Specialist, and Liz Appleby, SCA intern, lead programs on topics ranging from Kodiak bears and red foxes to vermicomposting.  Over 600 little nature lovers have participated in the program since last winter.
