Journal Entry   Back Service Provides Guidance to Transportation Officials and Staff on Endangered Species Act Compliance Southwest Region, October 3, 2008 Print Friendly Version  Allison Arnold, Fish and Wildlife Biologist, Austin Ecological Service Field Office, participated on two panels during an environmental transportation conference for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and consultants.  Every two years, TxDOT hosts an Environmental Coordinator’s Conference to report accomplishments in the environmental field and discuss outstanding issues with regard to the many facets of transportation planning.  TxDOT and FHWA requested that the Service participate on two panels: Section 7 Consultations and Indirect and Cumulative Impacts Analyses for transportation projects.  Both panels focused heavily on comprehensiveness in environmental documents, specifically with regard how to make legally-defensible determinations of effect to listed species.  Both panels also touched on the importance of consistency and completeness with regards administrative records.  Each panel used current and past projects utilizing various methods to accomplish a solid environmental review for the project, including the potential inducement of development from new transportation projects.
