Sevilleta NWR Hosts Endangered Species Poster Contest

The Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge held its fourth annual endagered species poster contest in September. Entries were excepted from students in Grades K-12. Over 700 entries were recieved from around the State. Students created artwork depicting Mexican wolves, white sided jack rabbits, southwest willow fly cathcers and the Socorro isopod, to name just a few of the featured species.

The event is co-sponsored by the Refuge and the Amigos de la Sevilleta as well as the Rio Grande Zoo. An awards ceremony was held on Saturday, October 11th in conjunction with the Refuge's open house. The blue goose was treated to great applause as he arrived to a packed room of over 70 visitors including artisits and their supporters. Winners recieved a Refuge T-shirt. Best of show winners were awrded free tickets to the zoo.
