Working with the WVDEP's REAP (Rehabilitation Environmental Action Plan) and land owners Western Pocahontas, two old hunting cabins and associated debris were removed from refuge lands.  One cabin required permission from Western Pocahontas in order to access the cabin site as the refuge tract is completely surrounded by private property.  Working with local WVDEP representative Mike Park and Western Pocahontas representative Doug Toothman, contractors were able to access the cabin sites, completely remove all structures and debris and re-grade and contour the site for rehabilitation.  This marks the second year that the refuge and WVDEP have worked together through the REAP program to clean up trash, cabins and debris from refuge property.  To date a total of 8 old hunting cabins, associated waste, an old bridge structure and an abandoned school bus have been removed from refuge property, free of charge, thanks to the REAP program.
