Journal Entry   Back Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge Hosts 5th Annual Summer Photo Contest Northeast Region, August 22, 2008 Print Friendly Version Between June and August 2008, the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge hosted its fifth annual summer photo contest.  This year the contest was organized by refuge intern Mary Kazantseva.  The contest was open to amateur photographers of all ages.  A total of thirteen entries were submitted from visitors across the country, reaching as far as California. All photographs were taken at the refuge, with themes ranging from wildlife and landscape to public use and recreation. Each photograph was unique and beautiful, depicting parts of the refuge special to the individual artist. Several of the photographers have submitted their photographs for the contest in past years, and we are thrilled that our visitors continue to enjoy the refuge year after year.  The Book of Photography by John Hedgecoe was awarded as first prize to Cynthia Mazza of New Jersey, while second and third place prizes were presented to Diane Godbout (NH) and Jane Firth (CA), respectively. The refuge would like to thank the other two contestants, Eric Lindgren (ME) and Wayne Lindgren (ME) for making this year's contest a success.
